Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob
There is nothing more frustrating than getting in your vehicle after a long day and discovering that the key fob battery is dead. Fortunately, this is an easy fix using an easy battery replacement at a hardware store or big box retailer.

Battery Replacement
You can replace the battery on your Mazda 3 keyfob at home. However, you should only replace the battery if it dies, or if the key fob displays a message in the multi-information display, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."
To open the case of your key fob You'll need a tape wrapped flathead screwdriver and a bit of patience. Put the flathead screwdriver's head in a notch or gap on the bottom metal of the Mazda 3 key fob to take off the lower portion. Repeat this step for the top portion of the metal but be careful not to damage the rubber ring at the bottom of the key fob's case.
Once the fob case is open, you'll be able to see a slot on either side of the case, which houses the battery. Start on the opposite side of the case, and then gently pry it open. Take out the old CR2025 and replace it with a new one, making sure you place it face-up to ensure the correct polarity. Then, put the cap back on and reattach both sides of the key fob's case, pressing until you hear them click.
After replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to ensure that the fob is working. If everything is in order then you're able to use your Mazda 3's remote features to drive again!

Interference can occur when your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket equipment that transmits at the same frequency as your key fob.
The key fob may also be damaged if exposed to water or salty water. The water can penetrate the rubber seals of the electronic chip, especially when the key fob is submerged in water for an extended time. This could cause the chip's function to cease, requiring replacement of the key fob. If you have a programable key you can clean the chip using isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner to help it return to working. If this doesn't work will be able to fix the issue, then the chip has fried and will need to be replaced.
Locking and unlocking of the Doors
The buttons on the key fob send electronic signals to a solenoid in the car that then transforms the signal into a mechanical action that locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock does not work it could be because of an issue with the solenoid. This requires experts from repair shops to look into.
A dead 12V battery can also prevent the fob from working effectively. This could happen if the battery is unable to charge or if the contacts are corroded and stop transmitting electricity. The problem can be addressed in minutes with a new battery.
